Ever since the very first DAM J.A.M. in 1992 we've always had a cut-off date to order shirts. It's been the same every year... if you order a shirt with pre-registration, you get one, if you don't, you don't.
We're not trying to be difficult, it's just that we need to know how many and what sizes to order by a certain date right before the event so they get printed on time and we don't have waste. Waste makes everything cost more in the world. We could make an educated guess about quantities and sizes but we'd be wrong and there'd be waste and it would cost more.
The other reason is that all of us are volunteers and after we put all our love and energy into bringing you DAM J.A.M weekend, we need to wrap it up and get back to the other stuff we do the rest of the year rather than matching up left-over shirts with lost owners.
Because this is a little selfish on our part, we try each year to make our shirts unique and special. We like to think they're just a cut above the average event t-shirt, and your feedback tells us we usually do a decent job.
We always get a few people who wish they'd read the shirt deal on the flyer or here at the website but didn't and they missed the chance to get one. They ask if we're taking re-orders and we always politely decline. They ask if there will be extras and we always smile and say, not usually.
We really want you to join us and we'd hate to lose you over a silly shirt. But there you go, that's how it works.
T-shirt pick-up for pre-registered riders THURSDAY, September 4:
NOTE... this year we're going a little greener. No packets = no unnecessary plastic bags or advertising paper = no extra landfill material. So, instead of "packet pick-up", think "t-shirt pickup".
Just like always you can get maps and pre-registered-only t-shirts before event day at Tom's at 68th and Peoria in Tulsa, or the Chamber of Commerce in Pryor, or at Whitaker Park the morning of DAM J.A.M. If you missed pre-registration, you can also sign up at any of these locations.
The ultimate in single-day, supported bicycle touring, DAM J.A.M. takes you along some of the most scenic country roads in Northeastern Oklahoma. Green Country is well known for it's many lakes and rolling hills. You'll find a wide variety of recreation and and home-town hospitality.
Location is Whitaker Park, Pryor Oklahoma, about 42 miles northeast of Tulsa. Take Highway 412 East from Tulsa to the Wagoner/Chouteau exit (Hwy. 69). North 10 miles to Pryor. Turn east on S.E. 9th at the Kum & Go and continue east to Elliott Street. Go north to Park Street. Ample free parking in the area.
NEW!!! Two start times… 7:45 and 8:00 a.m. Pick whichever one suits you. Both are escorted to assist you through traffic signals and stop signs on your way out of Pryor. If you go on your own, you won’t be escorted and you must obey all traffic signs and signals.
After your ride, the party continues in Whitaker Park from 11:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Lunch will be available for $8.00 prepaid with early registration or as available on DAM J.A.M. day. There could also be delicious Amish baked goods for sale. There might be music and entertainment, and maybe massages at a great price from noon to 5:00 p.m. Showers are available all afternoon. Who knows what else you might find. Stick around, it's a great cool and shady place to hang out and tell stories about your day.
We've held our fees steady for 15 years. I doubt they'll change in the foreseeable future. It kind of depends on sponsorship though. So if you know anyone who loves us and wants to give us money, ask them to send it to the Pryor Area Chamber of Commerce with a nice note. We accept sponsorships from $250 to $10,000 and we're good about displaying names, logos, or both. The bigger the sponsorship, the better we are about it... if you get my meaning.
FEES AND SHIRTS...
Please pre-register. It's so much better than waiting in line while everyone else enjoys the morning and visits with old friends. Take a little time to see who's there this year. And if we're lucky someone will show up with breakfast!
But, if you must wait till the day of the ride, please be at the registration table when it opens at 6:30 a.m. Have your entry form filled out and your money ready, please.
Maps of DAM J.A.M. are elsewhere on this site and will be available at the event on Saturday, September 6, 2008. All routes will be surface marked. Routes are subject to change without notice.
Limited break-down assistance and sag support will be on all routes until the last rider finishes, or until we get tired of waiting on you... probably about 5:00 p.m. Rest stops will close by 4:00 p.m.
Please be equipped to fix your own flats. Ride commences rain or shine. No Refunds.
For your safety and convenience, we have a few rules:
Go to the Spillway and look for more about common bike riding etiquette.
Thanks to David Kincannon for many of these great photos.
